5 Principles of Successful Chinese Entrepreneurs in Business that You Should Know!

Chinese, may be one of the inspirations for many successful people in Indonesia. How come there aren't many things that Chinese people do that ultimately make them successful faster than the habits of people in Indonesia.

It is not strange if Chinese people are successful, but it is interesting if the percentage of success that Chinese people have is greater than other people/ethnicities in this world. This is what is important to discuss about how it is so easy for Chinese people to be successful in many countries.

Some Chinese principles in business are also well known by other ethnic communities. According to Chinese business coach and Co-owner Gratyo Hendra Hilman, there are 5 principles of Chinese people in business.

1. Time is Money

Hendra said that time is money is the main principle of people of Chinese descent. If you adhere to these principles, then the businessman will definitely work hard to develop his business.

"We really don't want to waste time, we don't want to lose time. Don't let any time be wasted. Because every time is money, so time is money is really time is money. So my father was when I was little "He even works until Sunday. So working hard really doesn't want to lose time," said Hendra in the live d'Mentor episode of Stealing the Secrets of Chinese Business Success, Tuesday (16/2/2021).

Hendra said that this principle was passed down by the family's ancestors who migrated to Indonesia.

"Actually, it's the same, it's just the way to do it. Why is it like that? Because historically we are immigrants. My ancestors from China, who came to Indonesia really didn't have anything. Some of their families were in China. So they were used to working hard. "And at that time, Romusha was experiencing the Japanese colonial period. So when I told you about it, going through the Japanese colonial period was very difficult. So his hard work was greatly reduced," he explained.

2. Dream Big

Having big dreams is also a Chinese principle in business. With these principles, a businessman has a view of how he wants his business to survive and even develop in the future.

"We have to be successful entrepreneurs, we can create something that we can give to other people. So we create something. For example, if there are no noodles, we make them. Well, there is a difference between traders and entrepreneurs. Previously we didn't know that, basically we traded," we make a profit. Buy here for IDR 10,000, sell there for IDR 20,000, profit IDR 10,000. That's all, the important thing is to be able to eat. As time goes on it gets bigger, from traders we finally have a factory. So where does the money come from to have a factory? Yes, from money trade. So we have big dreams," explained Hendra.

3. Try to never lose

The third principle is to try never to lose. With this in mind, a businessman can continue to be inspired to advance his business.

"From a positive side, that's good, it means we always want to move forward, inspired by people," he said.

However, this principle should not be seen from a negative side. The reason is, if you don't want to lose and it will end in negative things, the businessman will only feel jealous.

"The negative thing is being jealous, envious or bad-mouthing, then we make it seem like someone else has a business and then what happens, yes there are some, but not all. Because jealousy causes more negative things, there are some like "In the end, there were people who were divided because they were jealous," explained Hendra.

4. Create Opportunities

The next principle is to create opportunities. He said that Chinese people are used to seeing opportunities from conditions, and in the end they can build businesses from these opportunities.

"Don't wait for opportunities to come, but instead we have to create those opportunities. That's a concept we must always think about. For example, when I was little, my father took me to the market. There was a crowd. I was told to look at it, asked what did I see? "There are so many people, which means the market is big. So we look at the situation from the perspective of what opportunities can be done from there," he added.

Hendra said that these opportunities can also be seen from the small things around us. For example, from conversations in groups in short messaging applications, and so on.

"What are the people in the chat group discussing, let's see from our side what we can sell there, right? So we don't wait, eh, please market this, you sell it. No, we created it. I think this is common too, right? "Today we have to create a market," said Hendra.

5. Whoever Plants, He Reaps

Hendra said that Chinese people were always taught the principle of give and take, not the other way around. As the saying goes, whoever sows, he reaps. This means that a businessman not only takes money from customers, but also has to give something, for example a gift. In this way, the Chinese believe in greater returns.

"There is a term take and give. In fact, it should be give and take. So give first. If we don't want to give first. Small money doesn't want to go out, big money doesn't want to come in. We believe, there is one principle that big things don't want to come in, " he explained.

Apart from that, this method can also build relationships with customers, so that they always choose that shop or business if they need something.

"So usually what we do to build relationships with customers, we visit every year, maybe not all, but for example our prime customers give them gifts or Chinese New Year packages, there are some that we touch. Or maybe we visit regularly, we give me a gift," explained Hendra.

"Or there are even customers who haven't made a transaction for a long time, for example, I sell computers, there is 1 customer who bought it from me but it was 5 years ago. Well, they have been given a gift until now. Yes, maybe not just a gift, we will give attention. If you sell "You give me samples of the product, you even actually get the product straight away," he continued
